The adoption of Total Quality Management (TQM) in educational institutions has not been thoroughly optimized, resulting in a wide range of results. This study aims to determine the key features of TQM used by maritime education and training institutes in Indonesia and the results. This study used descriptive quantitative methodologies using eleven institutions, the most extensively used TQM elements as measuring variables, and the findings. The respondents are 16 members of the institution's quality management team. Strategic quality planning (5.99), information and analysis (5.90), involvement of teaching staff and employees (5.86), knowledge and training (5.80), leadership and top management commitment (5.76), and process management were found to be the most often used TQM elements (5.76). Meanwhile, the most significant results of TQM implementation in the sample institutions were improving operational performance (6.06), teaching staff and employee satisfaction (5.90), and customer satisfaction (5.79). This study adds to the empirical literature on TQM in Indonesian maritime educational institutions by identifying the most often used TQM elements and the result achieved.

Although searching for information in an electronic environment is generally seen as an efficient and easy process, accessing the desired information within the breadth of data available on the web can be a complex and difficult process. For students preparing for a life at sea, it is important to establish and determine the appropriate strategies for accessing and interpreting information on the web, as their ability to perform such tasks quickly and effectively is vital for their success in this particular sector. In this study, the information searching and commitment strategies of students studying in the maritime faculty of a Turkish state university in the 2018-2019 academic year were examined. The study determined that students generally use advanced searching strategies, explicit components instead of more implicit components, and simple searching strategies instead of advanced searching strategies. Further, students in the department of Marine Transportation used more varied searching strategies on the web than those in the department of Marine Management. Possessing higher levels of computer skills was found to be more significant than computer or smart phone usage times in determining more advanced searching strategies. The results highlight the importance of educating students in order to gain awareness of how to organize information and identify appropriate content alongside teaching them how to access and use the information and scientific data they are looking for.

The seafarer’s profession will be facing a few strong challenges today and future next. Correspondingly, the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) requires tightly the maritime vocational education that must produce graduates with appropriate and needed competences related with international trade perspective in the shipping sector. In order to improve student skill, a training ship is needed by maritime vocational education as real practice for student. This research describes a modeling framework of basic ship design for training ship of the maritime vocational education. The modeling framework was divided into three parts namely the model of training ship type selection, the capacity of the training ship, and the main dimensions of the training ship design. The modeling framework was applied to Maritime Polytechnic of AMI Makassar as a case study. The research results show the selected type ship was passenger-cargo ship type 37.20. The capacity of the training ship was about 150 students with cargo capacity 50 ton. The main dimensions of the training ship design were obtained where length between perpendiculars (Lbp), breadth (B), height (H), and draft (T) were 72.00 m, 12.00 m, 5.50 m, and 2.53 m respectively. The main dimensions of the training ship design were corrected as well by the parameters of main dimension ratio, geometric form coefficient, weight, and initial static stability.
