“…muelleri from Western Australia (Capon et al, 1981), and C. ashmeadii from the Florida Keys (Paul et al, 1987). Major compounds usually contain the same bis-enol acetate group found in caulerpenyne and other linear terpenes from Caulerpa and related green algae.…”

“…On the terpenoid constituents of this genus we can find reports on monoterpenes [ 35 , 36 ]; the sesquiterpenes 23 – 39 ( Figure 7 , Table 1 ), isolated from several species [ 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]; the diterpene 40 from C. trifaria [ 40 ]; and the diterpenes 41 – 54 from C. brownii [ 41 , 42 ] ( Figure 8 ).…”

“…This functionality represents a `masked' dialdehyde constellation to which high biological activity is generally attributed . Curiously, very closely related terpenoids, also containing the bis-enol acetate functionality, have also been found as common but not ubiquitous constituents of related green algae of the genus Caulerpa (Caulerpaceae) (Amico, et al 1978, Blackman& Wells 1978Capon, et al 1981Capon, et al ,1983de Napoli, et al 1981 ; . It is unusual that identical and hitherto unencountered metabolites are found in two different families of marine algae .…”
