New Rotenoids and Coumaronochromonoids from the Aerial Part of Boerhaavia erecta

Abstract: From the aerial part of Boerhaavia erecta L., three new rotenoids (3, 8, 10) and two new coumaronochromonoids (6, 11) were isolated, together with ten known compounds. The structure of the new compounds was established by one dimensional (1D)-and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, as well as high resolution-electrospray ionization (HR-ESI)-MS analysis. The absolute configuration of compound 11 was determined by UV circular dichroism spectroscopy. Compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against HeLa (human epit… Show more

“…Their structures were elucidated by comparing spectroscopic data (CD, ESI-MS, and NMR spectra) with those reported previously. The purified compounds were identified as aromadendrin 5-methyl ether ( 1 ) [ 18 ], lupinalbin A ( 2 ) [ 19 ], genistein ( 3 ) [ 17 ], 2′-hydroxygenistein ( 4 ) [ 17 ], 5-methylgenistein ( 5 ) [ 17 ], barpisoflavone ( 6 ) [ 17 ], 2′-hydroxy-5-methylgenistein-7- O -glucoside ( 7 ) [ 16 ], 2′-hydroxygenistein-7- O -gentibioside ( 8 ) [ 16 ], and genistein-7- O -gentibioside ( 9 ) [ 16 ] ( Figure 1 , Supplementary materials Figures S1–S11 ).…”

“…A series of boeravinones, namely boeravinone A–J have been reported from B. diffusa roots (Kadota et al ., ; Lami et al ., , ; Borrelli et al ., ; Ahmed‐Belkacem et al ., ). Recently, boeravinone K–O were reported from aerial parts of B. erecta (Do et al ., ), and we have reported a further four new boeravinones (P–S) from B. diffusa roots (Bairwa et al ., , ).…”

“…Although their structures are similar to those of C -methylrotenoids, the C -methylcoumarinochromones bearing a furan ring instead of a pyran ring have been rarely reported. To the best of our knowledge, boeravinone J, , triquetrumones A, B, and C, and flemingichromone are the only reported C -methylcoumarinochromones so far. A. nana belongs to the plant family Nyctaginaceae, which grows in the desert areas of North America and has not been extensively studied yet.…”
