New radiation environment and effects models in the European Space Agency's Space Environment Information System (SPENVIS)

Abstract: The European Space Agency (ESA) Space Environment Information System (SPENVIS) provides standardized access to models of the hazardous space environment through a user‐friendly Web interface, available at http://www.spenvis.oma.be/. SPENVIS is designed to help spacecraft engineers perform rapid analyses of environmental problems and, with extensive documentation and tutorial information, allows engineers with relatively little familiarity with the models to produce reliable results. SPENVIS is based on interna… Show more

“…Most of those limitations have been overcome with the development of a new computer technique known as NOAAPRO Pfitzer, 1998a, 1998b], which has been implemented into SIREST for investigations studying Shuttle and ISS altitudes. A rationale for adopting AP8 was that it is readily available and commonly used [Heynderickx et al, 2005]. Below we demonstrate results that are consistent with the Pfitzer method.…”

“…The European Space Agency (ESA) Space Environment Information System (SPENVIS) provides standardized access to models of the hazardous space environment through a World Wide Web interface (Heynderickx et al, 2004). SPENVIS includes magnetic field models implemented by means of the UNILIB library for magnetic coordinate evaluation, magnetic field line tracing and drift shell tracing.…”
