New procedure for the examination of the degradation of volatile organonitrogen compounds during the treatment of industrial effluents

Abstract: We present a new procedure for the determination of 32 volatile organonitrogen compounds in samples of industrial effluents with a complex matrix. The procedure, based on dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction followed by gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus and mass spectrometric detection, was optimized and validated. Optimization of the extraction included the type of extraction and disperser solvent, disperser solvent volume, pH, salting out effect, extraction, and centrifugation time. The procedu… Show more

“…The remaining parameters, that is the volume of IPA, extraction time, and centrifugation time, were not significant factors in the studied range. The same effect was observed in previous studies . Therefore, 700 μL of IPA, 20 s extraction time, and 5 min centrifugation were used in further experiments.…”

“…In turn, the increase in solubility reduces the amount of recovered extraction solvent after extraction processes and contributes to the increase in the concentration of analytes in DCM. The same kind of extraction solvent was selected in previous works for extraction of other groups of VOCs compounds .…”

“…Two unidentified peaks, N-X1 and N-X2, were quantified using the same approach described in our previous work. 35 2-Ethyl-1-hexylamine revealed to be a byproduct of oxidation of other compounds in H 2 O 2 processes with a significant increase of concentration. In addition, it revealed to be persistent to degradation at 25 °C in O 3 and O 3 /H 2 O 2 processes.…”

“…Above-mentioned results and former literature reports on utilization of asphaltenes for waste gas purification indicate that the presented application can be used in petrochemical industry for adsorption of volatile compounds containing sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, as well as aromatic hydrocarbons. These compounds are typically present in waste gases emitted from process streams (Boczkaj et al 2016a;Boczkaj et al 2017;Makos et al 2018a, b).…”
