New Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms Used in the Treatment of Breast Cancer. Polymeric Micelles

Abstract: Among all types of cancer encountered in women, breast cancer is the most prevalent, with the highest mortality rate. An increased survival rate is closely related to early diagnosis, the use of high performing screening methods and of selective and adequate treatments. By using the nanotechnologies, the therapeutic effectiveness of the drugs may be improved by a controlled release of the active substances to the tumoral site. The aim of this review is to present the current state of knowledge and to men… Show more

“…NK012 releases SN-38 via hydrolysis and does not require enzymes for metabolism. NK012 has completed phase II clinical trials for relapsed small cell lung cancer and triple-negative breast cancer [102]. More studies are needed to decide the ideal dose of NK012 to increase safety and efficacy.…”

“…Nanosystems increase the concentration of the drug selectively to the target site, while reducing side effects associated with wide drug distribution. Therefore, nanosystems were found to reduce toxic effects brought by antineoplastic agents [29]. These systems are able to identify the target tissue [30], due to surface coating, labeling, or modifications, enhancing selective uptake of the drug by target tissue [31].…”
