“…Owing to distinct morphology and genetic stability recognition of synonyms in Myrmaecium is much easier than in Valsaria , and 19 epithets of Valsaria have been relegated to Myrmaecium by Ju et al (1996) under V. rubricosa and V. fulvopruinata . Many epithets of Valsaria have been recognized as synonyms of other fungi, most notably Pseudovalsaria (Spooner 1986; Untereiner et al 2013), Endoxylina (Ju et al 1996; Untereiner et al 2013) or Rousso7#x00EB;lla (Ju et al 1996), and several other pyrenomycetous genera. Ju et al (1996) studied all type specimens and other herbarium material available to them and synonymized numerous names with V. insitiva .…”

“…Whether or not this fungus, which is only known from the type specimen collected on Agave in Mexico and has striate ascospores, is a member of Valsariaceae remains to be assessed. Spooner (1986) combined Pseudothyridaria insitiva Petr. in Valsaria .…”

“…Valsaria type (HdV-263) or a different species within the Dothideomycetes class is well represented in zone 1a, although the genus Valsaria seems to be rare in Scotland today with only an unconfirmed presence recorded in western Scotland (NBNatlas, 2021). In terms of ecology, Pseudovalsaria has been recorded on Alnus wood (Spooner, 1986) whilst Van Geel et al (2003) describes Valsaria variospora (HdV-140) as often found under eutrophic wet conditions. Valsaria type in this record appears to show some association with the aquatic NPP group and was perhaps growing on rotting plant remains caused by the waterlogged conditions of the mire.…”

“…Kuntze, as a known pathogen species in this genus causes charcoal canker disease on Quercus L. species worldwide (Henriques et al., 2012; Henriques et al., 2016; Jurc & Ogris, 2006; Mirabolfathy, 2013; Mirabolfathy et al., 2011; Vannini et al., 1996; Vannini & Scarascia Mugnozza, 1991). This fungus has also been isolated and reported from other forest and ornamental tree genera such as Castanea L. (Spooner, 1986), Acer L., Eucalyptus L'Hér., Fagus L., Lithocarpus L., (Ju et al., 1998), Carpinus L. , Corylus L. (Fournier & Magni, 2004) and Fraxinus L. (Ragazzi et al., 2012). Biscogniauxia mediterranea has been already reported before in Iran on Quercus castaneifolia C.A.Mey.…”
