The analysis of the relationship between environmental conscious and scientific paradigms in different Western civilization development periods is presented in the article. The peculiarities of the influence of classical, non-classical and post-non-classical science on the types of environmental conscious characteristic of modern and postmodern societies are studied. The provision on the existence of the connection between the logical and philosophical attitudes of the New European (classical) science and the formation of the principles of anthropocentric environmental conscious that have ensured the formation of the anthropogenic civilization is proved. It is determined that within the framework of the non-classical paradigm the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the eco-centric model of environmental conscious begin to take shape. In the post-non-classical era the model of eco-centrism and worldview orientations directed to the development of the strategy for the safe interaction of nature and man is being formed on the basis of the theories of postmodernism and under the influence of modern cognitive practices. The influence of ontological and epistemological attitudes dominating within the framework of scientific paradigms on the formation of principles of nature management in anthropocentric and eco-centric systems of ecological conscious is traced.

The global challenge of the 21st century is associated with the need to ensure the sustainable development of modern countries. The basic condition for such development is an adequate amount of energy and resources. This means using not oil and gas only but supplies of drinking water, arable land, forests, and other mineral resources are being rapidly depleted. The industrial civilization, in only 200 years of its existence, has put the world on the threshold of a resource collapse. The reason for the current crisis situation is the antagonism of nature and the technosphere created by man. Technical progress has violated the natural resource turnover – a peculiar metabolism of nature, creating technologies that are hostile to it. These technologies, being torn from the natural context, are in fact bad copies of individual elements of natural processes and are based on a highly specialized model of science and industry-specific technologies. Consequently, the transition to sustainable development requires a radical technological modernization of the economy, in particular, widespread diffusion and inter-sectoral transfer of convergent and nature-like technologies.

Human economic activity, production and use of goods and services take place in the framework of a close exchange of materials and energy with the environment. Entering into relationship with the natural environment, industrial enterprises form a dynamic ecological-and-economic system, which is a combination of two jointly functioning subsystems: ecological and economic. The main feature of the ecologicaland-economic system is the balance, proportionality, balance of its natural and industrial subsystems. In this regard, a necessary condition for the transition of economy to sustainable development should be the reduction of the environmental capacity of production through the introduction of a new business philosophy, which is based on greening processes. Environmental activities, as one of the components of a balanced development, are becoming more and more economically viable, allowing enterprises to use the various direct and indirect benefits and profits associated with it, preventing negative environmental impacts. Of particular importance is the expansion of the economic basis of environmental activities in the conditions of modern structural changes in the economy, radically changing the proportions of consumption of natural and intellectual resources. Today, such structural changes are neo-industrial in nature, marking a new stage in the development of global industry, with increasing digitalization of production and a drastic reduction in natural resource consumption as well as harmful emissions cut.
