We determine the sensitivity to neutrino oscillation parameters from a study of atmospheric neutrinos in a magnetised detector such as the ICAL at the proposed India-based Neutrino Observatory. In such a detector, which can separately count ν μ and ν μ -induced events, the relatively smaller (about 5%) uncertainties on the neutrinoantineutrino flux ratios translate to a constraint in the χ 2 analysis that results in a significant improvement in the precision with which neutrino oscillation parameters such as sin 2 θ 23 can be determined. Such an effect is unique to all magnetisable detectors and constitutes a great advantage in determining neutrino oscillation parameters using such detectors. Such a study has been performed for the first time here. Along with an increase in the kinematic range compared to earlier analyses, this results in sensitivities to oscillation parameters in the 2-3 sector that are comparable to or better than those from accelerator experiments where the fluxes are significantly higher. For example, the 1σ precisions on sin 2 θ 23 and | m 2 32(31) | achievable for 500 kton year exposure of ICAL are ∼9 and ∼2.5%, respectively, for both normal and inverted hierarchies. The mass hierarchy sensitivity achievable with this combination when the true hierarchy is normal (inverted) for the same exposure is χ 2 ≈ 8.5 ( χ 2 ≈ 9.5).

Some recent results obtained by Daya Bay Collaboration and presented at Neutrino Telescopes 2017 are briefly reviewed. The most precise measurement of neutrino mixing sin 2 2θ 13 = 0.0841 ± 0.0027 (stat.) ± 0.0019 (syst.) and mass squared difference ∆m 2 ee = [2.50 ± 0.06 (stat.) ± 0.06 (syst.) ] × 10 −3 eV 2 was obtained using nGd data set. These results agree with an independent analysis of nH data sample. The data was analized also within the model of neutrino wave packet. For the first time an upper limit on the intrinsic relative dispersion of neutrino momentum σ rel < 0.20 at a 95% C.L. was obtained. The allowed decoherence effect due to the wave packet nature of neutrino oscillation is found to be insignificant for reactor antineutrinos detected by the Daya Bay experiment thus ensuring an unbiased measurement of the oscillation parameters sin 2 2θ 13 and ∆m 2 32 within the plane wave model. The flux of reactor ν e was measured and found to be in agreement with old reactor experiments observing ν e flux smaller than expectation in Huber+Muller model. Comparing observed and predicted energy spectra we find an almost flat deficit of measured events for E ν < 5 MeV and an agreement with the Huber+Muller model for 5.5 MeV E ν 6.5 MeV. A possible hypothesis of the observed flux deficit invokes ν e oscillation into a sterile state. This hypothesis was excluded for a large range of ∆m 2 41 . A combined analysis of Daya Bay, Bugey-3 and MINOS data excludes most of the allowed by LSND and MiniBooNE experiments sterileneutrino phase space for ∆m 2 41 < 0.8 eV 2 at 90% C.L. A physically-motivated function was developed to accurately determine the total absorption peak in an electromagnetic calorimeter and to overcome biases present in many commonly used methods.The function is the convolution of a detector resolution function with the sum of a delta function, which represents the complete absorption of energy, and a tail function, which describes the partial absorption of energy and depends on the detector materials and structures. Its performance was tested with the simulation of three typical cases. The accuracy of the extracted peak value, resolution, and peak area was improved by an order of magnitude on average, relative to the Crystal Ball function.
