New isoformula borates with similar structures and different properties – Acentric nonlinear optical KGd[B6O10(OH)2] and centrosymmetric KHo[B6O10(OH)2]
Single crystals of KGd[B6O10(OH)2] (I) are prepared by hydrothermal reaction of Gd2(CO3)3, K2CO3, KBr, and B2O3 in the presence of SiO2 (H2O, pH = 5.6, autoclave, 290 °C, 18‐20 d) at pH 5.6 for (I) and pH 7.8 for (II).

The review is devoted to systematic analysis of polyborate structures based on the recognition of fundamental building blocks. A wide range of inorganic polyborates are analyzed. The approach makes it possible to identify the place of new compounds among previously investigated ones, to compare their structures and to reveal structural features in order to substantiate the properties of novel materials and to optimize their search.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
