New Insights into the Immune Molecular Regulation of the Pathogenesis of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Abstract: Acute respiratory distress syndrome is an inflammatory disease characterized by dysfunction of pulmonary epithelial and capillary endothelial cells, infiltration of alveolar macrophages and neutrophils, cell apoptosis, necroptosis, NETosis, and fibrosis. Inflammatory responses have key effects on every phase of acute respiratory distress syndrome. The severe inflammatory cascades impaired the regulation of vascular endothelial barrier and vascular permeability. Therefore, understanding the relationship between… Show more

“…In IgAN patients with low risk of disease progression, the non-immunosupressive therapies were suggested as first line therapy for preventing disease progression, such as diet control, fish oil, Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) or sartans. The angiotensin-converting enzyme plays an important role in regulating vasoconstriction and vessel permeability [ 82 ]. ACEI or ARB regulated systemic blood pressure, preventing hypertension and hyper-intraglomerular pressure, and inhibiting the progression of most proteinuric chronic kidney diseases.…”

“…Although the pathogenesis of ARDS is still unclear, the key pathological features of ARDS are enhanced number and activation of inflammatory cells in the lungs, which trigger aberrant proinflammatory cytokine release and inflammation cascades. Consequently, this causes extensive damage to the microvascular endothelial cells ( Yang et al., 2018 ). The treatment for ARDS is mainly based on protective mechanical ventilation, restrictive fluid management, and other supportive treatments, as well as on the control of the primary disease.…”
