New Insights about Regulatory T Cells Distribution and Function with Exercise: The Role of Immunometabolism

Abstract: A lack of physical activity is linked to the development of many chronic diseases through a chronic low-grade inflammation state. It is now well accepted that the immune system plays a central role in the development of several chronic diseases, including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart failure and certain types of cancer. Exercise elicits a strong anti-inflammatory response independently of weight loss and can be a useful non-pharmacologic strategy to counteract the low-grade infla… Show more

“…Some data suggest a beneficial role of Foxp3+ regulatory T cells in EAE, 21 while other data suggest more complex dynamics 22 . It has been proposed that exercise may adjust the number and function of regulatory T cells 23 . In our experiments, similar fractions of CD4+, CD25+, FoxP3+ regulatory T cells were detected in PLP‐ reactive T cells obtained from HIIT, HICT, and SED mice.…”

“…Secondly, PA can increase the endurance and strength of the respiratory muscles, making them more efficient (McKenzie, 2012). Thirdly, regular PA has positive effects on the immune system (Dorneles et al, 2020), may restrain the immunosenescence generally seen with aging (Weyh et al, 2020), and can enhance the immune response to viral antigens, lowering the incidence of viral infections across the lifespan (Campbell and Turner, 2018).…”

“…dans les cellules dendritiques [8] et les lymphocytes T régulateurs [9] stimulés in vitro par différents ligands, mais également dans des granulocytes neutrophiles isolés de patients (dont ceux souffrant de formes graves d'infection par le SARS-CoV-2 [10]). Cependant, les modifications métaboliques qui ont été les plus étudiées sont liées à la polarisation des macrophages.…”
