Abstract:When memory becomes the subject of large institutions such as museums, with their hierarchical procedures and bureaucratic rules, renewal processes are a challenge. Changes happen faster when new institutions are created. This essay analyses new initiatives in the Brazilian museum field. Over the past decade, social and political movements have changed Brazilian perceptions of inequality and cultural differences and established a new agenda for their representation.
