New Graphene Composites for Power Engineering

Abstract: Intensive research is underway worldwide to develop new conductive materials for applications in the power industry. Such tests aim to increase the electrical conductivity of materials for conductors and cables, thus increasing the current carrying capacity of the line and reducing the loss of electricity transmission. The scientific discovery of recent years, graphene, one of the allotropic types of carbon with very high electrical and thermal conductivity and mechanical strength, creates great opportunities … Show more

“…Stranded aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR) conductors have been applied for over 100 years in overhead power lines to transmit electrical power at high voltage [ 20 ]. ACSR conductors have multiple layers of aluminum [ 21 ] and galvanized steel strands. The aluminum wires are wound helically around the core formed by the galvanized steel strands.…”

“…These properties mainly rely on the chemical nature, structure, and size of the fillers [ 3 ]. Therefore, the design of micro- and nano-composites is an increasingly important technology to improve the properties of polymeric materials with promising applications in different fields, such as nanotechnology [ 4 ], construction [ 5 ], aerospace [ 6 ], power energy [ 7 ], or biomedicine [ 8 ].…”
