New Formulated Diet and Rearing Technology for Sturgeon Cultivated in the Volga-Caspian Region

Extended Abstracts: Environmental and husbandry factors in sturgeon culture RESEARCH ON THE ABILITY OF 90-DAY-OLD Acipenser gueldenstaedti TO ADAPT TO SEAWATER I.Paschos, M. Tsoumani & L.Natsis Municipal Company of the Lake of Ioannina -Lorentzu Mavili- Anatoli-Ioannina 45 500-GREECEThe ability of 90 days old A. gueldenstaedti to adapt to high temperature, low level of dissolved oxygen and high salinity (conditions which are similar to environmental characteristics of our country) was investigated. A. gueldenstaedti were put into three tanks where the one of the above parameters was changed and the other two remained stable. From the results we noted that A.gueldenstaedti can adapt to temperatures of up to 29°C to dissolved oxygen as low as 3ppm and to salinities of up to 18%. Body weight increase was better in brackish water than in fresh water, the procedure of adaptation lasted 30 days with positive results for culture in brackish water.
