New Flexible Cystoscopic Stent Retriever Forceps

Abstract: Flexible cystoscopy is used more and more frequently for procedures such as removal of ureteric stents, for which various appliances are in common use and some have gained in popularity (Fig. 1). The commonly available biopsy forceps can be used, but with difficulty as the depth of the cups (or the depth of the teeth in the alligator forceps) is such that it is difficult to get a purchase on the stents, especially the larger ones (6 or 7F). The various basket retrievers also have limitations because it is nece… Show more

“…Retrieval instruments specifically designed for the flexible cystoscope, e.g. traditional graspers, are often unsuitable, prone to break and very expensive, especially if they have to be frequently replaced through breakage [ 2]. Furthermore, when the stent calibre exceeds 7 F, the jaws are inadequate to grasp the tube securely enough to remove it safely.…”
