New Diversity Arrays Technology (DArT) markers for tetraploid oat (Avena magna Murphy et Terrell) provide the first complete oat linkage map and markers linked to domestication genes from hexaploid A. sativa L.

Abstract: Nutritional benefits of cultivated oat (Avena sativa L., 2n = 6x = 42, AACCDD) are well recognized; however, seed protein levels are modest and resources for genetic improvement are scarce. The wild tetraploid, A. magna Murphy et Terrell (syn A. maroccana Gdgr., 2n = 4x = 28, CCDD), which contains approximately 31% seed protein, was hybridized with cultivated oat to produce a domesticated A. magna. Wild and cultivated accessions were crossed to generate a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population. Although thes… Show more

“…As noted in Background, some presumptive folds in the atrial wall were interpreted as evidence for atrial wall invagination in the formation of book lung lamellae in scorpion embryos, although a relationship between folds and lamellae was not shown [19,22]. The structures diagramed as folds may have been small widenings of the air sac entrance as observed in the book lungs of spider embryos.…”

“…This was considered as evidence of hypodermal invagination like that proposed for book gills [17,22,26] although the presumptive folds were not actually shown to be related to the formation of book lung lamellae.…”

“…The authors outlined a rapid and effective high-throughput pipeline for SNP discovery and genotyping that could be used in other species with poorly-characterized genomes. Some of the SNPs developed were used to construct the first complete tetraploid oat linkage map [21]. …”

“…These studies revealed low genetic diversity of Miscanthus 9 giganteus accessions used for bioenergy. More recently, Diversity Array Technology (DArT) has been successfully applied in genetic diversity analyses, linkage mapping, and surveying population structure of various crop species (Oliver et al 2011;Castillo et al 2013;Von Mark et al 2013). DArT is microarray-based method using DNA-DNA hybridisation (Jaccoud et al 2001).…”
