“…The tribe Armantomyini diverges early (approximately 33.16 Ma) from the remaining species of the ingroup. Its origin is set up at about 26.10 Ma in Spain, then it spread to France and also entered Central Europe (Germany, Switzerland; Gómez‐Cano et al., 2011, 2014; Prieto et al., 2019). These results support the conclusions of Lu et al.…”

“…The positions of MN4 Czech localities are speculative, since no biostratigraphic data for all localities is available. Age and chronological position of the localities mentioned in the figure is based on works of Bolliger (1992) ; Steininger (1999) ; Bulot & Ginsburg (1996) ; Aguilar et al (2003) ; Bulot, Antoine & Duranthon (2009) ; Reichenbacher et al (2013) ; Ruiz-Sánchez et al (2013) ; Hordijk et al (2015) ; Prieto et al (2018) ; Prieto et al (2022) ; Jovells-Vaqué & Casanovas-Vilar (2021) . Melissiodon data was obtained from the following works: Hrubesch (1957) ; Mein & Freudenthal (1981) ; Ziegler & Falhbusch, (1986) ; Werner (1994) ; Hordijk et al (2015) ; Jovells-Vaqué & Casanovas-Vilar (2018) ; and IBS 2021.…”

“…The following standards are adhered to: the Miocene time scale and biostratigraphy are based on the International Chronostratigraphic Chart ( Cohen et al, 2020 ), the Central and Eastern Paratethys boundaries follow Gozhyk et al (2015) and Kováč et al (2018) ; MN-zones for Western (left) and Central (right) Europe are as in Steininger (1999) and Hilgen, Lourens & Van Dam (2012) . The age and chronological position of the localities in the text and figures are based on all the following: Bolliger (1992) ; Steininger (1999) ; Bulot & Ginsburg (1996) ; Aguilar et al (2003) ; Bulot, Antoine & Duranthon (2009) ; Reichenbacher et al (2013) ; Ruiz-Sánchez et al (2013) ; Hordijk et al (2015) ; Prieto et al (2018) ; Prieto et al (2022) and Jovells-Vaqué & Casanovas-Vilar (2021) .…”

“…This pattern has been observed in Ribesalbes-Alcora and all the splitting stages have been noted, from an anteroloph with a small constriction to the fusion with the protoloph. A similar species comparable in size is Simplomys hugi Prieto, Lu, Maridet, Becker, Pirkenseer, Rauber & Peláez-Campomanes, 2019 but in this Central European species, the centroloph is lacking and the anteroloph is never divided (Prieto et al 2019). An additional characteristic in our material is the presence of a small pre-anteroloph crest, which gives the tooth greater robustness.…”

“…The stratigraphic range of S. simplicidens extends from the Early Miocene (MN2) to the Middle Miocene (MN5) (García-Paredes et al 2009; Prieto et al 2018; 2019). This species was described by De Bruijn (1966) based on the simplest material of the genus Pseudodryomys from the Calatayud-Montalbán Basin; later García-Paredes et al (2009) described the new genus Simplomys to include this species.…”
