New contributions to the flora of Myanmar Ⅰ

Abstract: In this study, we describe several new taxa belonging to the flora of Myanmar. One new family, Polyosmaceae ( Polyosma wallichii Benn.) is recorded. Over ten new genera are recorded for the first time, including Amentotaxus Pilger (Taxaceae), Hydrobryopsis Engler (Podostemaceae), Cyrtosia Blume and Biermannia King & Pantling (Orchidaceae), Eleutharrhena Forman and … Show more

“…Some of these new genera result from recent molecular studies that have changed the status of previously published species. The three newly recorded families are Petrosaviaceae ( Jin and Mint, 2018 ), Triuridaceae ( Jin et al., 2018 ), and Polyosmaceae ( Ding et al, 2019a ). The 34 newly recorded genera belong to 21 families ( Fig.…”

“…Many taxa new to science as well as many new records for Myanmar have been found (e.g. Jin et al., 2018 ; Kang et al, 2018 ; Ding et al, 2019a ; Rodda et al., 2019 ; Tanaka et al, 2019b ), and these botanical investigations have also contributed to taxonomic revisions (e.g. Ruchisansakun et al, 2018 ; Tanaka and Aung, 2019 ; Ding et al, 2019b ; Yang et al, 2019 ; Maw et al, 2020 ), checklists ( Tanaka et al., 2006 ; Khine et al, 2017 ; Hughes et al., 2019 ; Aung et al, 2020 ), and field guides ( Fujikawa et al, 2008 ; Kang et al, 2017 ; Tanaka et al, 2019a ).…”

“…In addition, some literature provides information on specimens from Myanmar that can be cited as specimen-based species occurrences in Myanmar (Kurzweil and Lwin 2015, Tanaka et al 2015, Watthana et al 2015, Aung et al 2017, Jin and Kyaw 2017, Yang et al 2017, Kurzweil and Ormerod 2018, Ding et al 2019, Kang et al 2019, Mu et al 2019, Ya et al 2019.…”

“…As for taxonomic status, we followed the updated classification of Orchidaceae (Chase et al 2015) and all relevant papers of orchid taxonomy and systematics (Pridgeon et al 2001, 2005, Chen et al 2009, Gardiner 2012, Gardiner et al 2013, Jin et al 2014, Vermeulen et al 2014, Raskoti et al 2016, Raskoti et al 2017, Govaerts 2018, Ng et al 2018. In addition, all papers of new species descriptions and new records of Myanmar orchid flora were reviewed to identify the species occurrences and distribution in Myanmar , Roberts et al 2008, Chen et al 2009, Tanaka et al 2010, Ormerod 2012, Pedersen et al 2011, Kurzweil and Lwin 2012a, b, Kurzweil 2013, Kurzweil and Lwin 2014, Aung et al 2017, Jin and Kyaw 2017, Koopowitz et al 2017, Yang et al 2017, Kurzweil and Ormerod 2018, Ding et al 2019, Kang et al 2019, Mu et al 2019, Ya et al 2019.…”

“…Belonging to the world biodiversity research hotspot areas, it is estimated that there are about 2500 vascular plant species on Mt. Victoria and a number of endemic, relict and new species have been found in this area (Cowley 1982;Tanaka et al 2010b;Zhou et al 2018;Ding et al 2019). We carried out field expeditions in this area since 2016, sponsored by the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, CAS, in cooperation with the Forest Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Myanmar.…”
