New concept: fiber embedded disk and tube lasers

Abstract

We present a new concept to scale up the power of fiber lasers into the kW range and report on the first laser based on this concept: a "fiber embedded tube laser". An optical to optical slope efficiency of 28% and a laser output power exceeding lOW were easily achieved.
