New biomarkers in diagnosis of early onset preeclampsia and imminent delivery prognosis

Abstract: The new cut-off values for the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio adjusted by the gestational age at clinical presentation can be used to rule out PE at obstetric triage and to predict imminent delivery with better accuracy than the cutpoint currently accepted.

“…5,51,75 Both the PELICAN study on the Triage PlGF test 5 and the PROGNOSIS study on the Elecsys sFlt-1 to PlGF ratio test 51 included women in the UK, although in the PROGNOSIS study only 1 of the 30 study centres was in the UK, with 76 UK participants represented among 1050 total participants. The remaining study by Álvarez-Fernández et al 75 was not conducted in the UK.…”

The remaining study by Álvarez-Fernández et al 75 was not conducted in the UK. Two of the studies were of a single-cohort design, whereas the PROGNOSIS study 51 had two cohorts: a 'development' cohort to derive a cut-off value-based prediction model for the sFlt-1 to PlGF ratio (n = 500) and a 'validation' cohort to test the model (n = 550).…”
