We present two Zn II -a nd Cd II -based coordination polymers (CPs), L-Zn and L-Cd,o fferingH -bondingbased cavities of varying dimensions. Both CPs were used for the highly selectived etection of S 2 O 7 2À and Fe 3 + ions where H-bonding based cavities played an important role. Fluorescence quenching, competitive bindings tudies and binding parameters substantiated significant recognition of S 2 O 7 2À and Fe 3 + ions by both CPs.Coordination polymers (CPs) are significant class of porous crystalline materials with outstanding architectural aspects and fascinating applications. [1] One of the important features that has made CPs unique is the fact that their architectural aspects can be fine-tuned by the judicious selection of both connecting ligands (or linkers) and metal ions or metal clusters. [2] Such ap ossibility has createdm anifold opportunities of synthesizing assorted CPs offering novel structural features and their custom-made applications. Such applicationse ncompass gas sorption, [3] gas storage, [4] separation, [5] catalysis, [6] magnetism, [7] drug delivery, [8] sensing, [9] imaging, [10] proton andh ydroxide conductivity. [11] Out of various CPs, in recent times, luminescent CPs have shown noteworthy applications in the sensing of small molecules, [12] explosives, [13, 14] metal ions, [15] anions, [15] dyes, [16,17] and even drugs. [18] Such remarkable sensing abilities are not only related to their porouss tructure but also the fact that their architecture can be electronically tuned. [1,2] Using such strategies, variousl uminescent CPs have incorporated electron-rich aromatic groups that have been found particularly effective for the sensing of electron-deficient analytes, such as nitro-aromatics.
