Nevus Comedonicus Bilateralis Et Verruciformis

Abstract: A case of nevus comedonicus is described which was bilateral, more prominent on the right side, worse on the buttocks with unusual verrucous nodules on the right helix, knee and elbows, and affecting the palms and soles. This patient would appear to have been the most seriously afflicted of the 130 reported cases. “…2). These cases have been named epidermal naevus syndrome or Schimmelpenning syndrome 9,10,20,21 and a wide variety of histological types of epidermal nevus may present features representing the cutaneous component of this syndrome, including verrucous epidermal naevus, 21–24 woolly hair naevi, 25 comedo naevus 9,26–28 and SCAP 29 as well as SN. All organs and systems must be examined in patients with lineal SN, because lineal organoid nevi are more frequently associated with developmental defects; in particular, long bone RX, ocular fundus examination and electroencephalogram are recomended.…”

“…Cataracts that are usually localized ipsilaterally are a characteristic feature, 85,133-137 and many patients have bone defects. 85,129,[138][139][140] Less frequently reported anomalies include various neurologic defects, 85,141 widely spaced nipples, 85 ipsilateral corneal erosion, 142 and spinal dysraphism. 143 For differential diagnosis, the syndrome of segmentally arranged basaloid follicular hamartomas with ipsilateral osseous, dental, and cerebral anomalies may be considered.…”

“…A review of the literature discloses only few reports of palmo-plantar comedolike lesions. These cases have been considered to be nevus comedonicus (NC) (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6) or linear epidermal nevus with comedones (7). Marsden et al (8), considering the histopathologic findings suggested that nevus comedonicus of the palm was a sweat duct nevus.…”
