“…Despite morphological alterations of the corpus allatum due to ageing (Awasthi 1972) compact and homogeneous nature and posses sion of dimorphic nuclei indicate its synthetic role (Lea and Thomsen 1962). Occurrence of interdigital processes in some inactive glands has a definite physi ological significance and could be recognised as a marker of synthetic activity as envisaged by B.…”

“…The first type are called "A cells," while the second type are called "B cells" (Dai et al, 1987). Classification of MNCs into A and B cells using histochemical staining affinities and cytomorphology has also been made in another article by Hsiao and Fraenkel (1966) in Phormia regina, and in other species of Musca nebulo Bhaskaran, 1966 -1967b), Musca domestica (Ramade, 1969), Sarcophaga ruficornis (Awasthi, 1972), Calliphora vicina, Lucilia caesar (Panov, 1976), and Lyperosia exigua (Khurad and Thakare, 1980). These differences in histochemical properties and cytomorphology may suggest different physiological properties of these neurons.…”

“…Figure 5 shows neurons stained through the CRN after the right NCC had been Awasthi (1972) severed in Protophormia terraenovae to stain neurons extending to the left NCC . A large cluster of cell bodies is located in the contralateral (right) PI.…”
