Neuromuscular ultrasound in electrically non‐localizable ulnar neuropathy

Abstract: HRUS often adds complementary information to standard EDx studies, including ulnar neuropathy. Thus, HRUS should be employed in patients with a non-localizing ulnar neuropathy on EDx studies. Muscle Nerve 58: 655-659, 2018.

“…These findings are similar to those presented in another 2018 publication of 56 patients with ulnar neuropathy. In the 12 patients with non-localizing studies, ultrasound was successful in identifying the site of pathology in all (Alrajeh and Preston, 2018). As with median neuropathy at the wrist, ultrasound can aid in not only finding the site of pathology but also in identifying its cause.…”

“…Over the years, it has evolved into a distinct ultrasound subspecialty. A vast amount of literature provides evidence regarding the value of neuromuscular ultrasound in the diagnostic evaluation of neuromuscular disorders (more key references are provided in Data S1 online) . As a result, neuromuscular ultrasound has become a fundamental diagnostic tool in many electrodiagnostic labs, clinics, and radiology centers.…”

“…In addition, these studies show that when using electrodiagnostic studies in conjunction with US, sensitivity is 93.3–98% (3). US has also been shown to be helpful in cases of electrically non-localizable ulnar mononeuropathy at the elbow (4). In carpal tunnel syndrome, a formal evidence based guideline has established the accuracy of sonographic diagnosis (Level A) (5).…”
