New Neutral Ionophores with High Ba" Selectivity The syntheses and the selectivity coefficients of the new open-chained, electrically ne… Show more

“…The fact that the extraction constant for Ba 2+ is more than 20 times higher than for any other investigated alkaline earth and more than 300 times higher than for any alkali metal cation is particularly noteworthy. In comparison with numerous examples of ligands with high extraction constants for Ba 2+ , 3,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24] the performance of the amides 1 and 2 is well above the average. A future application as Ba 2+ selective receptors looks promising.…”

“…The cocktails for the PVC-based sensor membrane consisted, for the cation-selective electrode, of 1.2% N,N,NA,NA-tetracyclohexyloxybis(o-phenyleneoxy)diacetamide (V163), 0.8% potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate, 65.3% o-nitrophenyl octyl ether and 32.7% PVC dissolved in tetrahydrofuran. 22 For the detection of anions, the liquid membrane cocktail used by Kondo et al was modified and contained 5.0% 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphin manganese(III) chloride (MnTPP), 1.0% tetradodecylammonium tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)borate, 4.0% decan-1-ol, 60.0% o-nitrophenyl octyl ether and 30.0% PVC dissolved in THF. 23 All membrane components were purchased from Fluka (Buchs, Switzerland), except for the anion ionophore MnTPP, which was from Aldrich (Milwaukee, WI, USA).…”

“…Originally, the open-chained Ionophore 2a was prepared by condensation of 2,2'-[1,2-phenylenebis(oxy)]diethanol 4 with N-benzyl-2-bromo-N-phenylacetamide in only 8 % yield [5]. Thus, short side chains of the aromatic ring of 4 have been increased to the desirable structure owing to addition of bulky enough reaction partners.…”

“…The disadvantage of this ionophore is relatively high interference from Ca 2 + and the pH. With this respect 2,2'-[1,2-phenylenebis(oxyethane-2,1-diyloxy)]bis(N-benzyl-N-phenylacetamide) (Ionophore 2a) invented in [5] appears more promising. The ionophore structures are shown in Figure 1.…”
