Nephroprotective activity ofMomordica dioicaRoxb. in cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity

Abstract: In this study, the ethanol extract of Momordica dioica fruit extract (200 mg kg(-1)) was studied for nephroprotective and curative activities. Chloroform, ethyl acetate, ethanol and aqueous extracts were prepared. In vitro antioxidant activity was made the basis for the selection of the ethanol extract for further studies. In DPPH free radical scavenging activity, the ethanolic extract has shown maximum inhibition (84.2%), followed by aqueous (74.8%), ethyl acetate (69.4%) and chloroform (59.7%) extract. On th… Show more

“…However, there J o u r n a l P r e -p r o o f is no evidence that M. dioica fruits have anti-diabetic properties, even though some researchers claim that M. dioica fruits have hypo/anti-hyperglycemic properties [11][12][13][14][15]. It was also reported to have antioxidant activity [16,17], antimicrobial activity [18,19], hepatoprotective activity which supports our experiment [16,[20][21][22], Reno protective activity [15,23], analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity [24,25].…”

“…The nephroprotective and curative activities of its fruit extract ware also observed [53]. Gupta et al evaluated the renal protective effect of Momordica dioica extract in streptozotocin-diabetic rats [54].…”

“…It is a species related to bitter gourd ( Momordica charantia Linn), which is nigauri in Japan. Kakrol, rather than nigauri, has generally been used in dishes because it has a sweet taste and contains a larger content of ascorbic acid than nigauri [5, 6]. …”

“…In addition, ethanol and water extracts of kakrol fruit not only have nephroprotective activity [6, 7] but also have hepatoprotective activity [8]. However, there is no study about the anti-allergy activity of kakrol extract.…”
