“…The mean age of patients diagnosed with PMCTs ranged from 35.8 to 68 years of age, and 52.1% of patients were female, according to the available data. For purposes of comparing studies from different periods, we used the median year of each of the following periods when the studies were performed: before 1975 in three data sets [17–19]; between 1975 and 1980 in five data sets [2, 2023]; between 1981 and 1985 in four data sets [4, 2426]; between 1986 and 1990 in five data sets [5, 27–30]; between 1991 and 1995 in four data sets [3134]; between 1996 and 2000 in eight data sets [35–42]; between 2001 and 2005 in six data sets [43–48]; and after 2005 in 3 data sets [16, 49, 50] (Table 1). …”

“…Hoffmeier et al followed 108 patients and showed that the mean survival for a mixed benign and malignant population was about 5.5 years. The authors claimed that improved survival was achieved with radical surgical resection (Hoffmeier et al 2005 ). Bakaeen et al reported a mean survival of 9.6 months for 85 patients with malignant tumors (Bakaeen et al 2003 ).…”

“…[2][3][4] Lipomas are benign nonmyxomatous neoplasms of the heart that normally cause no symptoms and their diagnosis is often accidental. [5][6][7] They represent 10% of the overall cardiac tumor masses arising from cardiac tissue and they are most frequently located in the right atrium. 8 The relationship of cardiac lipomas with stroke is not well established, probably because of the rarity of this type of tumors.…”
