“…However, only a few women diagnosed with BOTs are treated with chemotherapy due to the limited effects on BOTs, 40 although, women with serous BOTs, particularly women with extra‐ovarian disease, actually might have received chemotherapy in previous years due to their serous BOT diagnosis which could therefore explain myeloid leukemia as a treatment‐induced secondary malignancy due to chemotherapy. In addition, it is likely that shared risk factors as for example smoking 36 particularly for mucinous BOTs may also partly explain our findings of an increased risk of developing myeloid leukemia rather than just the chemotherapeutic treatment itself.…”

“… 15 , 16 , 17 Both the association between mucinous BOTs and lung and pancreatic cancer, respectively, are likely explained by shared risk factors such as smoking, which has been established especially for BOTs and ovarian cancer of mucinous histology 35 as well as for lung and pancreatic cancer. 36 The association between mucinous BOTs and pancreatic cancer might also be explained by shared genetics such as the hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) syndrome, 37 which is associated with both epithelial ovarian cancer and pancreatic cancer 15 and may also be related to BOTs. 34 Finally, mucinous BOTs are sometimes misclassified metastases of pancreatic cancer since metastases from pancreatic cancer on occasion can histologically mimic a mucinous BOT.…”
