Forage cactus (FC) is a perennial crop primarily developed in semi-arid regions. In Brazil, it is one of the main feed sources for ruminants during the dry season. However, scientific research and publication on FC seem limited and recent. Bibliometric studies allow measuring publication patterns and understanding the evolution of scientific production. Thus, a bibliometric analysis was carried out to evaluate the scientific production on productive aspects, management, and use of FC in animal feed (1800-June 2022). The literature search was based on keywords, including “cactus, cacti, nopal, prickly pear, palma forrageira, cacto, Nopalea, Opuntia, forage, forragem, and forraje”. Data were analyzed using the Bibliometrix tool based on the R language through the Biblioshiny interface. A total of 514 publications were identified, with a predominance of research articles (92.6%). Scientific production includes authors from 40 countries, highlighting Brazil (1094 authors). The main sources were: Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia, Acta Horticulturae, Tropical Animal Health and Production, Revista Caatinga, Journal of the Professional Association for Cactus Development, and Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental. The 10 most frequent words were: Opuntia, Semiarid, Nopalea, Forage, Cactaceae, Opuntia fícus-indica, Cactus, Cactus pear, Intake, and Digestibility. Scientific production on FC is led by researchers from Brazil, notably from Northeastern Brazil. Publications on the economic evaluation, establishment and maintenance of promising species, soil conservation, micronutrient content and the use of FC as a supplementary source of water, are less frequent. These sub-areas suggest future lines of research that may be inter-institutional to increase collaboration networks between countries.

The use of agricultural species resistant to root-knotting and root-wounding nematodes, in crop rotation systems, keeps the nematode population at low levels, reducing losses and enabling the planting of more susceptible species. In this study, the resistance of sorghum, millet and sunflower genotypes to root-knot nematodes Meloidogyne javanica, M. incognita and Pratylenchus brachyurus was evaluated. The tests were conducted in a greenhouse and the genotypes sown in plastic pots containing 2 L of sterilized substrate and inoculated with 1,600 nematode eggs and juveniles per pot, arranged in a completely randomized design with nine replications. The evaluation of nematode reproduction was performed by counting the number of juveniles/adults per root system and soil, calculating the Reproduction Factor (FR = Pf/Pi). According to the results, all sorghum, millet and sunflower genotypes behaved as resistant to the reproduction of M. javanica, M. incognita and P. brachyurus. Commercial resistant genotypes are indicated for use in rotation of areas infested by these nematodes.

Os nematoides do gênero Meloidogyne constituem um dos principais parasitas de plantas. Estes causam grandes prejuízos na produção agrícola em todo mundo. Em razão de seu difícil manejo faz-se necessário estudo de novas estratégias de controle. Portanto, objetivou-se avaliar a ação nematicida de extratos etanólicos da casca e da folha de marmelinho do cerrado, Cordiera sessilis, no controle de M. javanica. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em laboratório e em casa de vegetação utilizando o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos (casca: 100 mg L-1, 50 mg L-1, folha: 50 mg L-1, 25 mg L-1, 12,5 mg L-1) e seis repetições. No ensaio in vitro adicionou-se em um tubo de ensaio 16 mL dos extratos e 1 mL com 150 juvenis de segundo estádio de M. javanica e foram quantificados após 120 h. No ensaio in vivo em casa de vegetação mudas de tomateiro foram inoculadas com 5000 ovos de M. javanica e a seguir foi aplicada no colo da planta, 20 mL de cada extrato em intervalos de 15 dias até aos 60 dias. Com base nos resultados, pode-se concluir que em condições in vitro a concentração de 50 mg L-1 foi a melhor concentração causando 95% de mortalidade. Já no ensaio in vivo, os extratos da folha e da casca de marmelinho do cerrado nas concentrações de 50 mg L-1, apresentou os melhores resultados para redução de número de ovos e galhas de M. javanica, reduzindo em 25 e 16,67%, respectivamente.
