Nematicidal natural products from the aerial parts ofBuddleja crispa

Abstract: Studies on the aerial parts of Buddleja crispa yielded 13 known compounds, nonyl benzoate, hexyl p-hydroxy-cinnamate, ginipin, gardiol, 1-heptacosanol, steroidal galactoside (22 R)-stigmasta-7,9 (11)-dien-22 beta-ol-3beta-O-beta-D-galactopyranoside, 3-methoxy benzoic acid, beta-sitosterol and ursolic acid. Besides this two iridoid galactosides buddlejosides A, buddlejosides B and a benzofuran-type sesquiterpene buddlejone have been isolated from the ETOAC fraction of B. crispa. Together with the above compound… Show more

“…In order to meet the increasing demand for controlling PWD, new biologically active metabolites are needed. In this battle, microorganisms, particularly actinomycetes, are generally rich natural sources of structurally unmatched bioactive compounds, and some produce metabolic substances that display strong nematicidal activity . This study focused on the nematicidal activity of 5000 actinomycetes isolated from forest soil samples collected in Korea.…”

“…More than 60% of the natural antimicrobial drug compounds currently used are produced by different species of actinomycetes . Some metabolic substances produced demonstrate strong nematicidal activity . Moreover, nematicidal actinomycetes have been implicated to have an antagonistic effect on other plant pathogens, including fungal and bacterial organisms …”

“…Another two nematicial phenolic compounds namely vanillic acid (or called 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy benzoic acid, 140) and methyl benzoate (142) against nematode M. incognita were isolated from the aerial parts of Buddleja crispa (Loganiaceae) [108].…”

“…Of the biological control agents, actinomycetes are one (Oka et al 2000) of the most important microbial resources, some of them produce metabolic substances which can inhibit (DeBoer and Dietz 1976; Capon et al 2000; Ayers et al 2007; Wang et al 2011) or even kill nematodes, and developing such bioactive products is a promising (Sultana et al 2010; Wang et al 2010; Begum et al 2011) field in biocontrolling Meloidogyne spp. (Oka et al 2012).…”
