Nd3+:Y2O3 Ceramic Laser

Abstract: We have demonstrated CW one-micron laser oscillation in new ceramic laser material on the base of cubic Nd3+:Y2O3. Slope efficiency of 32% was achieved on an uncoated 1.5 at.% Nd3+:Y2O3 ceramic plate with size of φ14 ×2.7 mm under laser diode end-pumping.

“…These dependences are universal in character and, in particular, they can be used for the analysis of Nd 3+ -doped nanocrystalline ceramics. Based on these fundamental properties of the β JJ (X Nd ) dependences and by using the fitting with measured β JJ values in [290], the spectroscopic quality parameters for the first neodymium laser ceramics fabricated by VSN method [10] …”

“…1) [4,5]. The cubic crystal symmetries (absence of the birefringence which causes extremely high scattering losses) are generally required for the crystallites of optical ceramics, meaning that only a few inorganic materials can be used.…”

“…Nanotechnology and sintering techniques can be utilized in combination for the fabrication of rare earth-doped yttria transparent ceramics because the high surface area of the nanoparticles facilitates sintering, permitting one to reach full density more rapidly at temperatures far below the melting point of the material [1,2]. The fabrication of Yb doped Y 2 O 3 transparent ceramic involves the synthesis of non-agglomerated nanoparticles of Yb doped Y 2 O 3 and sintering of pressed pellets (prepared using a nanopowder) at high temperatures under low pressure [3].…”
