Nd3-xBixFe4GaO12(x = 2, 2.5) films on glass substrates prepared by MOD method

Abstract: Abstract. We studied Nd 3-X Bi X Fe 4 GaO 12 films to obtain perpendicular magnetic anisotropy as well as large Faraday effect. NdBi 2 Fe 4 GaO 12 (Bi2:NIGG) and Nd 0.5 Bi 2.5 Fe 4 GaO 12 (Bi2.5:NIGG) films were obtained on Nd 2 BiFe 4 GaO 12 (Bi1:NIGG) layer prepared on glass substrates by metal-organic decomposition (MOD) method. Bi2:NIGG and Bi2.5:NIGG films showed large Faraday rotation angles of 7.5 and 10.5 degree/μm, at a wavelength of 520 nm, respectively. Those films have perpendicular magnetic anisot… Show more

“…The Faraday rotation spectrum exhibited a peak between 500 and 550 nm owing to bismuth substitution, which is in agreement with previous reports. 26,28) In our study, the maximum Faraday rotation angle reached 11 deg. at a wavelength of 530 nm.…”

“…To overcome this problem, we have succeeded in preparing highly Bi-substituted neodymium iron garnet (Nd 3−x Bi x Fe 5−y Ga y O 12 ) films on glass and GGG substrates by the metal-organic decomposition (MOD) method. [24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32] Considering the large-scale measurement of MO images, we need to develop a novel optical system, because the conventional setup used for the Kerr microscope is not applicable for large-scale imaging. If we use the same concept of the conventional setup for a large-scale imaging, large lenses and mirrors are required to obtain a sufficient polarization property for MO imaging, which will be too large for practical use.…”

“…However, it is difficult to achieve a high Bi substitution, and the size of films is limited by that of the single crystal substrate such as Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG), which is typically smaller than 4 inches in diameter 12)-14) . To overcome these problems, we prepared highly Bi-substituted neodymium iron garnet (Nd3-xBixFe5-yGayO12) films, by metal-organic decomposition (MOD) on glass and GGG substrates 15) . This allows larger MO imaging plates to be prepared.…”
