“…Active targeting of the CyD polymers to selectively recognize cancer cells was obtained by covalent attachment of a variety of moieties, such as the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analog LHRHa (9 amino acids), folic acids, biotin [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ]. CyD polymers have also been conjugated with other therapeutic small molecules, such as methylprednisolone [ 33 ] or diagnostic molecules such as DOTA [ 34 ].…”

“…Today, pCyDs are obtained following several approaches. Thanks to the great versatility of the CyDs building blocks, a variety of methodologies has been applied to the preparation of pCyDs and many of these were compiled and deepened in a comprehensive work of Przybyla et al [ 54 ] focusing on the diverse chemistries that can be applied to the functionalization and thus polymerization of CyDs.…”

“…Secondary hydroxyls form strong hydrogen bonds rigidifying the wider edge of the CDs while primary hydroxyls are free to rotate. This freedom of rotation can reduce the diameter of the narrow edge and giving CD a truncated cone-like shape (Przybyla et al, 2020). It is known that β-CD has a rather rigid structure; but the lowest water solubility of all CDs is due to the H-bond belt formed among the hydroxyl groups of the adjacent glucopyranose units.…”
