Problem-solving skills are a series of complex thought processes that play an important role in the 21st century learning process. Problem-solving skills must be an important focus because they direct students to problem-solving activities and find alternative solutions that are needed objectively in learning or in everyday life. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Collaborative Mind Mapping (CMM)-Assisted RICOSRE on improving students' problem-solving skills. This study uses a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design with three classes of the Biology Education Study Program at Siliwangi University in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. This study recruited 100 students, 40 students were in the experimental group with the RICOSRE-CMM model, 35 students in the positive control group used RICOSRE, and 25 students in the negative control group applied direct instruction. The effectiveness of RICOSRE-CMM model learning towards improving problem-solving abilities was evaluated at two points, namely pre-course and post-course. Essay questions were used to collect research data and assess students' problem-solving skills. A rubric is used to evaluate student responses. The findings of this study indicate that the RICOSRE-CMM learning model significantly affects Siliwangi University students' problem-solving skills in Tasikmalaya. Studying with RICOSRE-CMM can simplify students' complex thinking processes toward frequently encountered problems. Systematically organized visualization can help speed up the process of finding solutions effectively and efficiently.

Background: Problem-based learning fosters critical thinking by requiring students to analyze information, evaluate solutions, and make well-judged decisions, thereby enhancing their problem-solving skills.Aim: The study aims to assess the impact of the RICOSRE learning model, which is based on socioscientific issues, on students' problem-solving and collaboration skills.Method: Quasi-experimental research was used in this research involving students in classes XI MIPA 2 and XI MIPA 3. Purposive random sampling was used to select participants. Data were collected using test and non-test instruments: essay questions assessed problem solving skills, while questionnaires measured collaboration skills. Hypothesis testing was carried out using Multivariate of Variance (MANOVA).Results: The RICOSRE learning model based on socioscientific issues can influence the problem-solving ability and collaboration skills of students, as evidenced by the MANOVA test's significant value (0.000). It was also observed that students with higher levels of collaboration tend to have stronger problem-solving capabilities, suggesting a proportional relationship between these two skills. Notably, students in the experimental class who exhibited outstanding collaborative abilities also showed a high problem-solving rate of 80.67%.Conclusion: The study concludes that the RICOSRE learning model, when combined with the Discovery Learning model and a scientific approach, positively influences students' problem-solving and collaboration skills. This model provides an effective learning strategy, enhancing students' ability to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, thereby making learning more engaging and relevant. Additionally, it prepares students for teamwork, improving their communication and interpersonal skills.

Scientific argumentation is a higher-order thinking skill that is a major focus in education in the 21st century. This is a skill that plays an important role in knowledge construction which in reality is rarely implemented in science learning. The facts show that most students have low scientific argumentation skills and still need to be improved. In improving scientific argumentation skills, the learning design used must give students more opportunities to build and criticize arguments, make claims, and use evidence in the process of reasoning based on inquiry activities. Based on the results of previous research, it is known that inquiry-based learning has extraordinary potential in developing students’ scientific argumentation skills. Interestingly, no research has been found that reveals the effect of inquiry-based online learning on students’ scientific argumentation skills. Therefore, this study aims to determine the impact of inquiry-based online learning with a virtual laboratory on students’ scientific argumentation skills. This study uses a onegroup pretest-posttest design with n-gain analysis. The results of this study indicate that the application of inquiry-based online learning with a virtual laboratory can improve students’ scientific argumentation skills. Uniquely, this only significantly impacts the claim, evidence, and reasoning components, but not the counterclaim and rebuttal components.
