Nanotechnology: Current applications and future scope in food

Abstract: Nanotechnology is the new frontier in the transformation of conventional agriculture and food sector into an emerging form for development of food industry. Innovations in nanofood, nanosensors, nanopackaging, nanofertilizers, and nanopesticides are the major recent advancements of nanoscience and technology. Nanoscience‐based technology has a vibrant impact on food quality, food safety, and food packaging aspects including nanofood drug delivery, nanonutraceuticals, and functional food. Application of nanotec… Show more

“…Pioneering nanotechnology has opened a new way for the development of nano-sized formulations that are highly effective for pest control with lesser residual toxicity and are environment-friendly (Yadav et al, 2021). These are chemically alterable particles consisting of a large surface-to-volume ratio, and their physical properties make them capable enough to target organisms (Madhuri et al, 2010;Mustafa & Hussein, 2020;Sahoo et al, 2021). Nanoparticles can be engineered in different forms, for example, a capsule acts as a physical shell and can better withstand degradation in the environment.…”

“…It would most definitely only be a question of time before we see nanotechnology's goods "on our world. " Nanoparticulate distribution systems, packaging (nano-composites bottles, nanolaminates, bins of silver nanoparticles), biosecurity, and food safety are only a few of the uses of nanotechnology in the dairy and FIs (Prakash et al, 2018;Sahoo et al, 2020). In the immediate future, nanotechnology will play a key role in food and dairy production, including two kinds of nano food applications: FP and food additives.…”

“…Materiais compostos de alguns metais de transição como prata, ferro e dióxido de titânio, não metais como selênio e silicatos ou metais alcalino-terrosos como cálcio e magnésio podem ser encontrados em diversos alimentos. Óxido de magnésio, dióxido de silício e dióxido de titânio são agentes antiaglomerantes, além de atuarem como aditivos de cor em gomas, balas e coberturas de doces (Sahoo et al, 2021).…”
