Nanostructured Cubosomes in a Thermoresponsive Depot System: An Alternative Approach for the Controlled Delivery of Docetaxel

Abstract: Abstract. The aim of the present study was to develop and evaluate a thermoresponsive depot system comprising of docetaxel-loaded cubosomes. The cubosomes were dispersed within a thermoreversible gelling system for controlled drug delivery. The cubosome dispersion was prepared by dilution method, followed by homogenization using glyceryl monooleate, ethanol and Pluronic ® F127 in distilled water. The cubosome dispersion was then incorporated into a gelling system prepared with Pluronic ® F127 and Pluronic ® F6… Show more

“…The zeta potential of the prepared CN was found to be −35.0±1.9 mV. These results are in agreement with previous reports, which mentions that the zeta potential values of greater than −30 mV are considered acceptable, and are indicative of a good physical stability (42,43).…”

“…Cubosome structure consists of a highly twisted, continuous lipid bilayer with two congruent, non-intersecting water channels [19]. Compared to the simple bilayer structure of liposomes, cubosomes have increased surface area and strong ability to encapsulate diverse molecules from hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and amphiphilic substances [20]. The cubosomes possess higher physiochemical stability than liposomes due to the strong electric repulsion and a large ratio of lipid bilayer [21][22][23].…”

“…In the next step the diglyceride undergoes the same process and 2-monoglyceride is produced. Both hydrolysis [22] and alcoholysis [35,36] have been described for preparation of 2-monoglycerides.…”
