Nanoscopic Medial Meniscus Repair

Abstract: Arthroscopic meniscus repair is one of the commonly used arthroscopic surgical procedures. Open treatment was the standard for meniscus repairs and recently arthroscopic all-inside treatment has become popular. Novel and more minimally invasive techniques to common arthroscopic procedures are paving the foundation to better patient outcomes. With the use of the NanoScope and nanoinstruments, we continue to develop new minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment techniques that do not require standard portals. … Show more

“…Their use has recently been reported in the anterior labral repair of the shoulder, proximal biceps tenotomy, distal clavicle resection, medial meniscus repair, and anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, among others. 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 All aim to minimize risks around exposure, visualization, and local tissue disruption.…”

“… 12 Additionally, needle arthroscopy has been described for the diagnosis and treatment of meniscal derangement, with high success. 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 These procedures, previously, were performed either for diagnosis in office, or in the operating room using either regional or general anesthesia and have frequently been performed with a tourniquet inflated. In this technical note, we describe the use of IONA to perform wide-awake meniscus repair for the treatment of a medial meniscal tear.…”
