“…It is shown that 2,4-TDC was easily decomposed under UV irradiation in the absence of TiO 2 pigment, while the rutilebased TiO 2 pigments (P2-P4) retarded the photodegradation of 2,4-TDC to various degrees. The results indicated that 2,4-TDC was susceptible to be degraded, which was consistent with the characteristic of PU materials [3,6,30]. On the other hand, the rutile TiO 2 pigments can effectively shield and absorb UV light, thus inhibiting that the TiO 2 pigment P1, in the form of anatase, has a significant photoreactivity under UV irradiation in spite of the surface treatment.…”

“…Inorganic materials have been used as the UV absorbers in PU polymers due to their significant UV-protective properties, the most common of which are TiO 2 , ZnO and CeO 2 [4][5][6][7]. TiO 2 , as a white pigment, is widely used in various applications in our daily life such as paints, coatings and plastics due to its outstanding covering power and UV absorption performance.…”

“…The epoxy and isocyanate components are aromatic-based which have low resistance against weathering condition. It is well known that the presence of aromatic moieties in the coating structure negatively affects the weathering performance [2,3]. It is mainly due to high level of absorption of aromatic moieties at ultraviolet part of solar spectrum which initiate and accelerate photo degradation of organic polymers [24].…”

“…Proper selection of raw materials i.e. binder, pigments as well as addition of various organic/inorganic light stabilizers are the main strategies implemented in formulating exterior coatings to meet such requirements [1][2][3][4][5][6]. In the multi-layer coat systems, the final layer is logically considered to be responsible for the weathering resistance.…”

“…Cathodic electrodeposition is a common application technique used in fields such as the automotive industry to protect automobile body-work [1][2][3][4]. Surface defects may appear in coatings applied by electrodeposition and one important defect in automotive coatings is cratering; in which a small crater-shaped depression appears in the film [5][6][7][8].…”
