Nano-hydroxyapatite preparation from biogenic raw materials

Abstract: Hydroxyapatite (HAp) was successfully produced from recycled eggshell, seashell and phosphoric acid. The phases obtained depended on the ratio of calcined eggshell/ seashell to phosphoric acid, the calcination temperature and the mechanochemical activation method (ball milling or attrition milling). The HAp structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microsopy and infrared spectroscopy. Attrition milling was more effective than ball milling, yielding nanosize, homogenous and pure Hap.… Show more

“…Even though CaCO3 is not stable above 860 °C at atmospheric pressure, probably due to the applied uniaxial pressure during SPS it did not decompose or at least not completely even at 900°C. The main reason for the minor presence of CaCO3 in the starting mixture is the preparation method of HAP powder since it was synthesized from a biogenic material, eggshell as detailed in [34]. Figure 3.…”

“…doped CLHA nanopowders recorded at room temperature in the region 500-4000 cm -1 were shown ) and hydroxyl (OH -) bands were shown in Fig. 9, usually confirms the formation of apatite [35]. Bands observed at 564, 565, 601, 602 cm -1 are attributed to asymmetric and symmetric bending of PO 4 3-(m 4 ).…”
