Naked-eye detection and thermochromic properties of Cu(ii)-3,3′-thiodipropionate complexes with benzimidazole

Abstract: Two new coordination complexes, namely, [Cu(tdp)(H2O)(bim)3]·4H2O (1) and {[Cu(μ2-tdp)(bim)2]·4H2O}n (2) (tdp = 3,3'-thiodipropionate, bim = benzimidazole), having naked-eye sensor properties and thermochromic behaviors, were synthesized and structurally characterized using elemental analysis, IR and UV spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermal analyses (TG, DTA and DTG) techniques. Complex 1 changed color from blue to dark and light green in methanol and DMF so… Show more

“…The samples also displayed similar reversible breathing behavior after vacuum freeze drying. As mentioned above, the amount of hydrogen bonds in the structure might prevent the framework from collapsing after the dehydration ,. When the sample of 1 was further heated to higher temperatures, the framework collapsed due to the loss of bridging water molecules (Figure S3 and S4).…”

“…5-Sulfoisophthalic acid (sipH 3 ) is one such interesting ligand and has two functional groups, -SO 3 H and -COOH. Partly or fully deprotonated sipH 2− and sip 3− are useful building blocks for constructing coordination polymers and act as a versatility ligand and coordinate to metal ions as bridging ligand.…”
