Naevus Sebaceus.

Abstract: SUMMARY.— The clinical records and the histopathology of 140 cases of naevus sebaceus and related compound epidermal naevi have been studied with special reference to the incidence of secondary tumours. In 27 lesions there were areas of syringocystadenoma papilliferum, sometimes forming a large part of the naevus. In 9 lesions, basal cell epithelioma was a secondary development, but only 3 of these epitheliomata showed evidence of an aggressive growth pattern. Fourteen other naevi were found histologically to … Show more

“…Syringocystadenoma papilliferum has been found in 8% to 19% of NS1. Basaloid epithelial proliferations have been clinically evident in 5% to 7% of NS5. In the current case, syringocystadenoma papilliferum and trichoblastoma-like lesions arising from the NS were observed.…”

“…ILVEN can be distinguished because of its earlier onset and lack of spontaneous regression. [4] Lesions are potentially premalignant with a 15–20% risk of malignant transformation,[22] hence the early surgical removal of these lesions should be considered. Patients with extensive epidermal nevi and systemic abnormalities should be suspected of having the epidermal nevus syndrome.…”

“…Mehregan and Pinkus7 described a series of 150 patients with NS, including 4 that had three coexisting tumors and one that had 4 tumors. In another series of 140 patients with NS, Jones and Heyl8 found only 1 patient with 3 tumors.…”
