Myxoid liposarcoma: local relapse and metastatic pattern in 43 patients

Abstract: BackgroundLiposarcomas are the second most common type of soft tissue sarcomas, 30–50% of these are of myxoid subtype. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the local control rate, the metastatic pattern and survival of patients in a consecutive single-institution series.MethodsFrom 1983 to 2015, 43 patients with myxoid liposarcoma of the extremities and trunk wall underwent resections. The margin was defined as R0 (wide) or R1 (marginal). Patients were followed for evidence of local recurrence or… Show more

“…Round cell liposarcoma is recognized as a high‐grade, cell‐specific variant of MLPS characterized by poor prognosis. Local recurrence and metastasis to atypical sites, such as bone, retroperitoneum, or lymph nodes, are also commonly encountered. The treatment options for soft tissue sarcoma consist of tumor resection, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.…”

“…The clinical symptoms reported were principally abdominal pain and distention, both in the present cohort and in that previously published ones. [9,[24][25][26] Since abdominal pain and distention were nonspeci c and tolerable to patients, it was di cult to diagnose retroperitoneal LPS or differentiate subtypes of LPS via clinical symptoms.…”

“…MLPS often shows multilobulated, hypoechoic structure on ultrasound [28]. Moreover, MLS usually exhibits low signal intensity in T1W and intermediate signal intensity in T2W, making it recognizable with other types of tumors [12,25]. PLPS, due to its special component, shows little fat attenuation on CT [14].…”

“…Adjuvant radiotherapy is the standard treatment of high-grade (G2–3) sarcomas [ 4 ] and mostly recommended in lesions >5 cm, especially when locallized deeply.…”
