“…Conflicting reports variably classify this tumor type as a variant of chordoma (chordoid sarcoma) versus a subtype of chondrosarcoma. 25,27 Further confusion exists because of similarities between myxoid chondrosarcoma, liposarcoma, 26 and chondromyxoid fibroma. 56 Additional problems in accurate classification may result from mistaking the common myxoid changes seen in conventional chondrosarcoma to represent a myxoid variant.…”

“…According to Kilpatrick et al (6), the more aggressive clinical behavior of myxoid chondrosarcoma is reflected by its radiologic features, which include a permeative pattern of osseous destruction and associated soft tissue mass. Matrix mineralization is frequently apparent on CT scans, though, it is not extensive.…”

“…Matrix mineralization is frequently apparent on CT scans, though, it is not extensive. The extensive myxoid stroma of myxoid chondrosarcoma has an exceptionally high water content with low attenuation by CT and very high signal intensity by T2-weighted MR (6), and this MRI enhancement pattern of myxoid chondrosarcoma depends on tumor heterogeneity (4). Although intralesional hemorrhage is common pathologic finding, it is uncommon by MRI.…”

“…1,2,3 More than two-thirds of the tumors occur in the deep tissues of the extremities, especially the thigh and popliteal fossa regions. 1,2,3 The clinical findings are nonspecific and relate to a progressively enlarging mass. 3 These lesions do not show any distinctive radiological findings.…”

“…1,3 Histologically, MCS is a lobulated neoplasm composed of round-to spindleshaped cells arranged in anastomosing cords, strands, and nests. 2 The tumor cells contain a thin rim of clear to eosinophilic cytoplasm and are embedded in an abundant myxoid matrix. 2 Hyaline cartilage is rarely present.…”
