Mycotoxins from Fusarium proliferatum: new inhibitors of papain-like cysteine proteases

Abstract: Papain-like cysteine proteases (PLCPs) in plants are essential to prevent phytopathogen invasion. In order to search for cysteine protease inhibitors and to investigate compounds that could be associated to pineapple Fusarium disease, a chemistry investigation was performed on Fusarium proliferatum isolated from Ananas comosus (pineapple) and cultivated in Czapek medium. From F. proliferatum extracts, nine secondary metabolites were isolated and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass… Show more

“…These differences could be attributed to the different affinity of TLR4 to BEA and LPS or by additional molecular targets of BEA within the cells. For example, Cathepsin B has recently been reported as a direct target of BEA (37). It is also known that Cathepsin B deficiency results in enhanced IL-12p40 production in dendritic cells by promoting the dendritic cell maturation (38).…”

“…However, they are also associated with the production of beneficial compounds that inhibit the growth of phytopathogens affecting agricultural crops (Husaini et al, 2018). Some of the agricultural plants of significance that can be affected by Fusarium include pineapple (Silva et al, 2020), maize (Torovic, 2018), soybean (Schollenberger et al, 2007), and wheat (Orlando et al, 2019). As for Penicillium and Aspergillus, certain species within these genera are known to produce toxins and hold economic importance in the cereal industry (Alshannaq and Yu, 2017).…”

“…Genome sequencing revealed higher similarity with the previous SARS CoV (2003 outbreak). Both viruses share the same membrane-bound exopeptidase Angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE2) as the host receptor to enter the cells (Chakraborty and Member 2020 ; Silva et al 2020 ). Different structural proteins such as spike proteins play the main role in attachment to host receptors.…”
