MYB transcription factor genes as regulators for plant responses: an overview

Abstract: Regulation of gene expression at the level of transcription controls many crucial biological processes. Transcription factors (TFs) play a great role in controlling cellular processes and MYB TF family is large and involved in controlling various processes like responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, development, differentiation, metabolism, defense etc. Here, we review MYB TFs with particular emphasis on their role in controlling different biological processes. This will provide valuable insights in underst… Show more

“…Further physiological and molecular investigations of the identified mutant allele will help to elucidate the control of developmental transitions in facultative long-day petunia. Anthocyanin biosynthesis and regulation have been intensively studied in petunia (Winkel-Shirley 2001;Koes et al 2005;Ambawat et al 2013). Genetic analyses of flower color mutants have been instrumental to the identification of several structural and regulatory genes in the species (Koes et al 2005;Ambawat et al 2013).…”

In a large number of higher plant species, the activity of chalcone synthase displays gene redundancy and it is encoded by at least nine genes in Medicago truncatula, three in grapevine, two in maize and only one in Antirrhinum (Desnos et al 2001;Koes et al 2005;Abe and Morita 2010).…”

“…Esta familia tiene un número variable de dominios MYB. La región C-terminal puede contener elementos para la activación o represión transcripcional (Ambawat et al, 2013). El criterio de clasificación de estas proteínas está basado en el número de dominios MYB presentes en sus secuencias, variando de uno a cuatro.…”
