Introdução: A mastectomia profilática, também conhecida como mastectomia preventiva, é um tema de grande importância na área da oncologia, principalmente para mulheres com alto risco genético de desenvolver câncer de mama. Objetivo: Analisar e descrever os benefícios da mastectomia preventiva. Pergunta: O que a literatura científica dispõe acerca da mastectomia preventiva? Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, por proporcionar uma síntese dos resultados obtidos através de pesquisas publicadas. Para construção da pesquisa, a busca e coleta de dados foi realizada através do Portal da Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e da base de dados Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online via PubMed, por meio dos seguintes Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS): “Mastectomia Profilática”, “Câncer de Mama” e “Fatores de Risco” combinados entre si pelo operador booleano AND. Resultados: A mastectomia profilática é uma intervenção cirúrgica, que envolve a remoção preventiva da mama saudável em mulheres com alto risco genético de desenvolver câncer de mama. Trata-se de um tema amplamente discutido no campo da oncologia, que tem gerado diversos debates e opiniões divergentes. Conclusão: A mastectomia preventiva é uma opção terapêutica complexa e individualizada, que busca reduzir o risco de desenvolvimento ou recorrência do câncer de mama em mulheres de alto risco.
