Esta dissertação discute a presença de mulheres na ciência, até hoje nada justa e igualitária, e a falta de estímulos para participação destas na área Científica e Tecnológica. A partir de uma busca na História da Ciência e em estatísticas recentes foi possível perceber que a exclusão e desvalorização de mulheres neste âmbito é resultado de questões históricas nas quais era negado a elas o acesso à educação científica, uma vez que se defendia a ideia de que os homens eram aptos a realizarem atividades intelectuais enquanto elas deveriam realizar apenas atividades domésticas. Para romper com essa concepção, consideráveis mudanças no eixo científico e tecnológico são necessárias e, uma das estratégias utilizadas, é o estudo acerca da carreira pessoal e profissional de cientistas do sexo feminino que contribuíram para o desenvolvimento destas áreas. Neste sentido, justifica-se o estudo sobre a vida de Marguerite Catherine Perey (1909-1975), cientista francesa responsável pelo isolamento e caracterização do elemento químico Frâncio e a primeira mulher a ingressar na Academia Francesa de Ciência (FAS). Com o objetivo geral de reconhecer, valorizar e divulgar a participação de mulheres na Ciência, além de discutir as contribuições da Tabela Periódica no Ensino de Química a partir de sua história e da presença feminina, optamos pela metodologia de estudo de caso para este trabalho. Essa organização nos permitiu investigar um fenômeno dentro do seu contexto de realidade, possibilitando um conhecimento mais amplo e detalhado e, para isso, contamos com um levantamento bibliográfico a respeito da participação feminina na Ciência, da vida e legado de Marguerite Perey, da descoberta do Frâncio, da sua eleição para a FAS e da história da Tabela Periódica. A partir disso, obtivemos acesso a obras de origem primária e secundária, contando com artigos científicos, publicações em jornais e revistas da época, anotações em cadernetas de laboratório e relatórios semanais da FAS, os quais foram analisados de maneira qualitativa. Ao longo desta dissertação, foi possível concluir a importância do trabalho de Marguerite para a Ciência, mais especificamente para a Tabela Periódica, e para a história da Academia Francesa de Ciências. Sua eleição foi imprescindível para que demais mulheres ingressassem e chegassem a cargos superiores na instituição, como a chefia da seção de Química, cargo atualmente ocupado por uma cientista francesa, o que reforça nossa discussão a respeito da (in)visibilidade de mulheres na área da Ciência.
