Mutual Coupling Reduction of Two 2x1 Triangular-Patch Antenna Array Using a Single Neutralization Line for MIMO Applications

Abstract: In this paper, a novel structure of two interlaced antenna arrays for MIMO applications is presented. It consists of two 2  1 triangular patch array antennas, which have all elements separated by a short distance among them (0.22λ 0), where mutual coupling can be very poor (S 21 =-7.81 dB). To overcome such weakness, a simple and efficient method is used: one neutralization line (NL) is introduced to increase the decoupling between both ports, reaching up to-29 dB at the central frequency, and below-20 dB ove… Show more

“…In Reference , the possibility of interlacing two 2 × 1 antenna arrays for a MIMO application was explored. Since the patch antennas were too close to each other (0.22λ 0 ), the worst value of S 21 parameter magnitude, −7.81 dB, is considered high compared to results found in current literature.…”

“…Various techniques have been used for isolation enhancement such as Defected Ground Structure (DGS) [2,3], Electromagnetic band gap (EBG) [4][5][6][7], Parasitic Element [8][9][10][11], complementary split ring resonators [12][13][14], metallic stubs and shorting pins [15][16][17][18], and neutralization line [19,20]. For instance, in [2], S-Shape periodic defected ground structure (PDGS) is used for coupling reduction.…”
