Poor public health is always associated with the mismanagement of municipal solid waste (MSW). Many cities are besieged by MSW in the world. It is essential to do a good job in MSW management (MSWM). In order to improve the efficiency of MSWM, the Chinese government has intensively implemented relevant policies. There are still few studies on MSWM efficiency in China. The research aims to comprehensively analyze MSWM efficiency, find high-efficiency MSWM policy implementation routes and the breakthrough on improving MSWM efficiency. To measure Chinese MSWM efficiency accurately, this paper introduced the three-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) model into the research. According to the results of DEA, Fuzzy c-Means algorithm was used to the cluster analysis of 33 typical cities. After eliminating the interference of the external environment and random disturbance, the mean value of MSWM efficiency declined from 0.575 to 0.544. The mean of pure technical efficiency (PTE) was declined from 0.966 to 0.611, while the mean of scale efficiency (SE) increased from 0.600 to 0.907. The PTE of central and northeastern cities was relatively low. The SE of western cities was comparatively high and the efficiency distribution of the eastern region was relatively scattered. In general, MSWM efficiency is low and expected to be improved. Regional differences in MSWM efficiency have been shown. The management effectiveness of eight pilot cities (MSW classification) is affirmative but not that significant. To improve MSWM efficiency, differential management for four types of cities should be carried out.

Gold honey variety pineapple wastes and sacha inchi sub-products (SIS) were characterized in their elemental, physical, and chemical form in order to formulate a supplemented fermentation substrate (SFS) for the growth Weissella cibaria. The peels and fresh cores of the pineapple (FPP, FPC) were dried and ground (PPP, PPC) and then mixed (MCPP). The following procedures were then undertaken: a physicochemical characterization (moisture, a w , pH, acidity, and soluble solids) of the SIS, FPP, FPC, PPP, and PPC; a proximal characterization of he FPP, FPC, SIS, and SFS; and an elemental analysis (C-N 2-H 2-O 2-S) of the MCPP, SIS, and W. cibaria, which allowed the stoichiometric equation to be defined and the SFS to be formulated. We then evaluated the effect that homogenization and heating to boiling point had on the concentration of reducing sugars in the SFS (g L À1). Finally, W. cibarias kinetic fermentation parameters were evaluated in the SFS and in a commercial substrate (control). The results showed FPP and FPC yields of 26.02 AE 0.58 and 14.69 AE 1.13%, respectively; a higher total sugar content in FPC (7.21%) than in FPP (6.65%); a high crude protein content in SIS (56.70%), and a C:N 2 ratio of 6.50:1.00. Moreover, the highest concentration of reducing sugars (4.44 AE 0.29 g L À1) in the SFS was obtained with 5 h of hydrolysis under homogenization pre-treatments and heating until boiling. The SFS allowed the adaptation of W. cibaria, and there was a biomass production of 2.93 g L À1 and a viability of 9.88 log CFU mL À1. The formulation of an unconventional fermentation substrate from-Agro-industrial wastes of pineapple and sacha inchi to produce valuable products (such as lactic acid biomass through fermentation), is an excellent perspective for large-scale application.

Este artículo muestra un análisis comparativo de las emisiones de biogás generadas en un relleno sanitario al aplicar el modelo mexicano de biogás, el modelo de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos de América (EPA) y comparar los resultados con datos obtenidos in-situ. Las estimaciones con los modelos teóricos y la medición en campo se realizaron en 36 pozos de venteo de un relleno sanitario ubicado en el Estado de México, México, con una recepción diaria de 3500 kilogramos de RSU. Los resultaron in-situ mostraron una generación de biogás (CH4, CO2 y O2) con una frecuencia media de 35.44 Hz (1/s) y emisiones de metano de 3355.99 m3 /hr. En contraste los modelos teóricos estimaron valores para el año 2018 de 6270.57 m3/hr para el modelo de la EPA y 8379.52 m3/hr para el modelo mexicano de biogás. Los resultados mostraron variaciones significativas en las estimaciones de los modelos teóricos versus la medición in-situ. La información generada permite discutir la confiabilidad del uso de modelos teóricos para formular proyectos de aprovechamiento y valorización de RSU al considerar los altos montos de inversión que implican y que las proyecciones de generación de energía se basan en la frecuencia de generación del flujo de biogás estimado en el relleno.
